The planning for the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers 2024 Annual Meeting is underway. Information on the Annual Meeting, the hotel, and travel to the heart of the best-known ski valley in the United States, Avon, Colorado, is provided below. Technical events include short courses on Saturday afternoon, all day on Sunday, and on Tuesday afternoon. Included in our short courses will be a two-part Monograph 5 course. As always, we will offer half-day technical sessions on Monday and Tuesday.

Cancellation policy: To ensure the success of the Annual Meeting, all reservations will be charged a one-night deposit hold for the room, which won’t be refunded if canceled after May 24, 2024. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Early Departure Fee: Guests who have reserved a room within the Group’s block and check out prior to their reserved checkout date will be charged an early departure fee of one night’s room and tax to their individual account.

Short Course I: Saturday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Part I) & Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Part II)
Monograph 5 (A Practical Guide to Type Well Profiles) is not intended to be a “cookbook” for the construction and application of TWPs. Rather, Monograph 5 sets forth recommended practices, guidelines, and workflows that should be a valuable resource in the hands of a qualified professional. Proper construction and application can only be made by applying sound judgment and common sense rooted in science, knowledge, and experience.
Following significant work by the Committee, Monograph 5 has now been released for Peer Review. We expect to release the Monograph for publication prior to the end of 2024.
This short course will be a full-day session that covers an extensive review of all Monograph 5 content. Topics covered in detail will include an overall Type Well Profile (TWP) Workflow; Managing and Mitigating Bias; Selecting and Conditioning Analogs; Normalization Techniques; Construction Methodologies, including the Production Averaging Method and the Parameterization Method; Quantitative and Qualitative Assessment of Uncertainty; Application of TWPs; Validation Techniques; and Effective Documentation. Statistical principles will also be discussed to provide an understanding of important foundational concepts. After completion of this course, attendees should be able to apply the recommendation practices for a robust TWP workflow, including application of a novel analytical method to assess uncertainty and develop Pxx TWPs.
In addition to receiving the course materials, attendees will receive personal digital online access to Monograph 5 once published.
Short Course II: Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Navigating changes to SEC regulations and required disclosures has never been more challenging. James Gordon, Managing Director, Deloitte Business Tax Services, and Doug Rand, Managing Director, Deloitte National Office Audit & Reporting Services, will lead a course to provide insights on legislation and updates to SEC filing requirements. The course will cover Extracted Resource Payment disclosures, Climate-Related disclosures, and other SEC updates.
Short Course III: Tuesday 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
CCUS Industry Overview
Will include a brief overview of the current global status of CCUS projects, evolution of capture technologies, evolution of storage (including underground injection and sequestration) and the current pipeline infrastructure in the US. Attendees will get a clear sense of how the CCUS industry has grown rapidly in recent years.
Introduction to Tax Credits
This is tax credit 101 material. Target audience is anyone fairly new to tax credits and attendees will get a good overview of how tax credits work, the types of tax credits there are, the various structures for tax credit transactions.
CCUS – 45Q Tax Credits
Introduction to the 45Q CCUS tax credit and different structures available to monetize 45Q tax credits. Comments on current market pricing for 45Q tax credits. Review of risks from a tax credit investor’s perspective. A short section on project finance for CCUS projects, including tax credit monetization of the 45Q tax credits that CCUS projects generate.

Offroad Adventure: Jeep Tours (Sunday, 12:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
We invite you to join us on this 5,500-acre, historic Bair Ranch tour. This beautiful retreat is a sixth-generation, private working homestead that climbs above spectacular Glenwood Canyon overlooking the Colorado River.
Travel back in time as you explore this ranch. Enjoy majestic peaks, the Colorado River, and Glenwood Canyon. While you traverse the property, take in Colorado’s abundant wildflowers with views of Mount Sopris in the distance. Relax while the knowledgeable guides share the area’s history and geography with you.
As you climb out of Glenwood Canyon, you may see some of Colorado’s famous wildlife, including elk, big horn sheep, deer, or bear, so have your cameras ready. This open-air tour meanders through meadows, open pastures, and high alpine areas.

The mission of Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is to protect the alpine environment through education, conservation, and living plant collections. While a stunning place to visit, there is much more to this Garden. Each year, a new education exhibit will surprise even the most knowledgeable visitor, and you will learn about the scientific work being accomplished in the alpine to save the fragile species that call it home.
The tour will wind through the botanical gardens and end at the Schoolhouse Gift Shop in the Children’s Garden. You’ll learn about alpine flora and mountain environments, identification, and the history of Betty Ford Alpine Gardens and Vail.
This is an activity all ages can enjoy!
Group Activity: Fly Fishing (Monday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Some days, the best fly fishing is done on foot – slowly dissecting each run, riffle, and pool, one step at a time. You will get a chance to take an in-depth look at the bugs and fish that live beneath the water’s surface while surrounding yourself with some of the best scenery Colorado has to offer. Wade trips are also a great way for you to work on technique while receiving specific, one-on-one instruction from our professional fly-fishing guides, the Vail Valley Anglers Group.
Fly fishing is one of the most popular activities for groups visiting the Vail and Beaver Creek resorts in the summer and fall, so be sure not to miss out on the opportunity!

The Town of Avon’s Nottingham Lake is the focal point of many summer and winter activities in the park. The Park Includes 48 acres of open space, Nottingham Lake for fishing, pedal-boating, and SUP (Stand-Up-Paddle board), children’s playgrounds, beach and swim area, picnic tables, and barbecue grills, recreational paths for walking, jogging, and biking, as well as in-line skating, and many sports courts.
Join us for a fun afternoon in the water, or you can always stay out of the water and opt to relax on Nottingham Lake’s beach. We will rent paddle boats and paddleboards and bring refreshments!
