Speaker Bio/Abstract: John Benton served as Commissioner and eventual Chairman of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 2011 to 2019, through complicated and historic changes in how the oil and gas industry is viewed by the public and subsequently regulated in the State. Most notably, he served during a series of 14 challenging rulemakings, including enhanced hydraulic fracturing disclosure rules and rules for development in Urban Mitigation Areas. He will discuss his experiences and learnings from his time on the COGCC, reflecting on both what got us here and what we should expect going forward. John is a registered Professional Engineer licensed in Colorado and a long-time SPEE member. He has held managerial and executive positions at a number of E&P companies. He currently serves as the Production Manager for Caerus Oil & Gas.
