The criteria for well spacing decisions in the unconventional plays; particularly for the Permian and Eagle Ford, involves a multitude of variables and uncertainties. So many uncertainties as such, the common resultant is a high-level statistical approach which drives the outcome of analogies and decisions. W.D. Von Gonten will highlight our current understanding of relationships in layered media ranging from pore scale production drivers, well-to-well interactions, and how dynamic the well spacing considerations need to be framed from the context of a physics-based approach. W.D. Von Gonten will highlight current lab testing and software developments that are underway in order to narrow the gap of uncertainties to improve development success in the unconventional arena.
Travis is a Reservoir Engineer with W.D. Von Gonten & Co., a well-respected industry reservoir consulting firm with innovative laboratory characterization capabilities and expertise. Travis has experience and is responsible for projects in multiple basins including the Permian, Anadarko, Eagle Ford, Utica, Marcellus, and Powder River among other areas. Travis’s specific areas of interest include a multidiscipline approach to evaluating unconventional development potential across a variety of formations and regions. This involves advanced reservoir engineering techniques and geomechanical characterization to support development recommendations ultimately leading to improved productivity as well as overall project development optimization. Travis has been with W.D. Von Gonten & Co. since 2011. Travis is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and is a current member of the Houston Producers Forum. Travis earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering at Texas A & M University.
