Abstract: Hydraulic fracturing stimulation designs are moving towards tighter spaced clusters, longer stage length, and more proppant volumes. However, effectively evaluating the hydraulic fracturing stimulation efficiency remains a challenge. Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) data, when integrated with the microseismic, highlight processes relevant to the completion design and allow for a better understanding and interpretation of each dataset.
This talk will outline a workflow to improve processing and interpretation of DAS and DTS data. These methods will be demonstrated for a horizontal Wolfcamp well in the Permian Basin. Key aspects of the microseismic, DAS, and DTS results in several fracture stages will be compared to understand the downhole geomechanical processes.
Bio: Vikram Jayaram has over 16 years of experience in advancing the field of artificial intelligence (AI) both in industry and academia. His interests are in developing AI powered production systems for advanced E&P analytics. At Pioneer Natural Resources, Vikram is a Senior Manager for Data Science and Advanced Analytics. Before joining Pioneer he was a Principal Research Scientist for Sabre Corporation, where he architected the next generation revenue management systems prototype utilizing AI / Game Theory models. He has also worked as a Sr. Research Geophysicist with Global Geophysical Services, served as a Research Professor with the University of Oklahoma, and worked at Eastman Kodak Research Labs, National Aerospace Labs, Motorola Research and Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.
Vikram did his postdoctoral work at the U.T. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center working on image reconstruction algorithms in nuclear imaging. He has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and was awarded the prestigious NASA Fellowship. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications in international conferences and journals including industry patents.
Shuang Zhang is a Data Scientist in Data Science and Advanced Analytics at Pioneer Natural Resources, with responsibilities for developing the advanced technology solutions for distributed fiber optics sensing data processing and interpretation. Her interests are in distributed fiber optics sensing, advanced analytics, and horizontal well downhole monitoring.
She holds a B.S degree from University of Science and Technology Beijing, a M.S. degree from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, both in mechanical engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University. She has authored 9 publications in international conferences and peer-reviewed journals during her graduate study.
