What are our ethical responsibilities as oil and gas professionals? Competent reserve and resource estimates rely not only on sound engineering and geoscience judgement, but on healthy ethical discipline. Using case studies, this talk illustrates the common roots among professional ethics codes, the balance between technical and human elements, and the scale of their potential impact.
Jorge Faz is a Senior Reserves Consultant - Geosciences, with Occidental Petroleum Corporation. Jorge received his Masters Science degree in Geology from Purdue University in 1984. He started his career with Mobil in exploration doing fieldwork in China, moved on to Permian Basin and Four Corners production assignments in the US, and then worked on deep, horizontal, multi-frac tight gas developments in Germany. He moved to Oxy in 2000 and has worked both technical and management roles in domestic and overseas assignments. As a member of the Oil and Gas Reserves team, his main responsibility is to ensure the integrity of Oxy’s Proved Reserve base as reported by corporate and regulatory directives.
