2020 SPEE Annual Meeting
The planning for the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers 2020 Annual Meeting is underway. Information on the Annual Meeting, the hotel, and travel to the sailing capital of the world, Newport, Rhode Island, is provided below. ANNUAL MEETING DETAILS
Technical events include a 4-hour short course on Saturday afternoon and two 4-hour short courses on Sunday, plus one half-day on Monday and one full day on Tuesday of technical sessions. There will be opportunities to network and socialize during group and guest activities Sunday through Tuesday and at the Monday evening Gala and Awards Dinner.
Located on Goat Island and surrounded by Narragansett Bay, Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina is centrally located to nearby landmark mansions, museums, vineyards, golf courses, beaches, state parks, scenic walks, and cruises.
Gurney’s offers SPEE group rates from Saturday, June 13th to Tuesday, June 16th, 2020, at a block rate of $295.00 plus state and local taxes and a $1 per night Newport Tourism Assessment Fee. The resort fee ($30) will be waived for all attendees, and guests will receive the following at no additional cost:
- Luxury Shuttle Transportation to/from Downtown Newport
- Seasonal Water Shuttle to/from Bowen’s Wharf and Perrotti Park
- Complimentary Guestroom Wireless Internet Access
- 24-Hour Access to Fitness Center
- Unlimited Local Phone Calls
Early Departure Fee: Guests who have reserved a room within the Group’s block and check out prior to their reserved checkout date will be charged an early departure fee of one night’s room and tax to their individual account. Guests must advise the hotel at or before check-in if they wish to depart early to avoid the fees.

Reservation requests must be made by Monday, May 11, 2020.
SPEE Annual Meeting attendees will receive a 15% discount on spa services at The Seawater Spa. Additional information is available at Spa Services.
The hotel will honor the group discount rate three (3) days before and after the Annual Meeting, subject to availability or contracted room types. Guests are welcome to extend their trip a few extra days to explore Newport with a trolley tour or enjoy a stunning sunset sail in the historical waterfront. Newport is located 72 miles from Boston, Massachusetts and 33 miles from Providence, Rhode Island. Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod are all within easy reach for wider exploration of the New England area!
TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE ANNUAL MEETING
- Providence (PVD): The best way to travel to Newport is to fly into Providence and then take the 30-minute drive south to Newport via I-95. T.F. Green Airport (PVD) is 25 miles north of Newport.
- Boston (BOS): From Boston's Logan International Airport (BOS), Newport is a drive of about 1 hour and 15 minutes (if traffic isn't bad).

NOTE: June is high season in Newport and traffic is very slow and congested. The hotel shuttle and water shuttle (or a short walk across the bridge) are the best ways to access the downtown area. There is much to see within walking distance or hop on the Newport Trolley for $2.00 per day.
